Students and teachers across the school are right into learning and it is wonderful to see the curiosity of students flourish. Through Inquiry, students are developing their questioning skills and identifying the learning that is occurring through their investigations. 3/4 Boyle discovered many interesting things through experimenting with magnetic forces. Their curiosity and collaboration were exceptional.
NAPLAN
NAPLAN (National Assessment Program for Literacy and Numeracy occurs every year across Australia for Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 students. Our Year 3’s and 5’s have participated with engaged focus in Numeracy, Reading, Conventions of Language, and Writing testing. It was great to see everyone have a go and strive to improve their achievement. I would like to thank the students for their hard work and dedication during NAPLAN time.
School Review
The Department of Education (DoE) has a strong commitment to performance and improvement and recognises the important relationship between school leadership, quality teaching, community engagement, data and accountability, differentiated support, and most significantly student learning and outcomes. School reviews are conducted in all Northern Territory schools, every four years, as part of the DoE School Improvement Cycle. The Department of Education uses the National School Improvement Tool to assist schools in this reflection during their school review. External review teams work closely with schools to gather evidence and make judgments about where they are on their improvement journeys.
Zuccoli Primary School will have its first School Review next week giving us the opportunity to review and reflect on our current practices, areas for improvement, and evidence of progress made towards improving the quality of teaching and learning and student outcomes. We look forward to sharing the feedback with our school community and making them the focus of our future Annual School Improvement Tool Plans.
Cross Country
COVID-19
Please ensure you contact the school office if your child has tested positive for COVID-19. This allows us to notify families of your child’s class to ensure our school community is informed.
Attendance at School
Just a reminder to families of the importance of students coming to school everyday. When your child is absent from school they miss important opportunities to learn, develop life skills and build friendships. Over time, these absences quickly add up.

Science
In Science, we have been experimenting with different materials to see if magnetic force passes through. Students predicted the thickness of the material will affect whether the magnetic force can make the paperclip move.

Inquiry
This week in Inquiry we have been learning about what events different people celebrate and commemorate and what that tells us about that community.

Maths
In Maths, students enjoyed exploring different ways to create halves, quarters, and other fractions.

This week in writing, we have been writing persuasive texts.
Welcome back Zuccoli teachers, students, and families to the start of Term Two.
3/4 Ralph has been busy learning about different topics across various subjects.
This week in Spelling, we have been learning to read and write words and sentences with contractions in them.

In Writing, we have been writing persuasive texts.

This week in Science, we learned about how forces affect the interaction between objects through sheets made of different materials. We used magnets, paper clips, and other objects to help us with our investigation.

In Maths, we are learning about fractions. We created halves, quarters, and other fraction shapes using coloured pegs on pegboards.

During the first week back at school, our Learning Commissioners proudly presented to all staff.
So you might be wondering, what is learning commission?
At Zuccoli Primary School, The Northern Territory Learning Commission is a group of ten Year 5 and Year 6 students who conduct a project where they look at the current data in the school.
The role of commissioners is to work together. This is led by student's voice to make meaningful improvements in our school. Their purpose is to ensure voice, choice, and responsibility for all learners by improving learning. The legacy is to have ongoing strong learning partnerships

Who are your Learning Commissioners?
Maryam Atkinson (Year 5), Ahliya Cusack (Year 5), Aaliyah Cowan (Year 6), Sienna Deigan (Year 5), Tahlia Gilson (Year 5), William Gorner (Year 6), Harshi Meta (Year 6), Rhiannon Palamatom (Year 6), and Moises Pena (Year 5) and Thomas Sanderson (Year 5).
What have we done so far?
As Zuccoli is a very young school we are still growing in terms of academic and social/emotional development. The data commissioners have looked at has left them wondering and wanting to know more.
They have looked at the school's PAT Reading test, and Student, Teacher, and Parent Overview Surveys to find inconsistencies, gaps, and drops or rises in the most recent data.
What is our next goal?
- Survey staff and students to gather data about the understanding of the behavior policy at Zuccoli Primary School.
Congratulations to these students who received Awards
