Assistant Principal's Report
Professional Development Day (Pupil Free Day) Monday 10 October
School Council and DoE have approved this Professional Day. This day will focus on improving our Reading Processes and Practices across the school. This is also aligned with the school's 2022 Annual School Improvement Plan. The focus for improvement is from the 2021 triangulation of NAPLAN, A-E, and PAT data indicating the need for Zuccoli Primary School to continue focusing on improving outcomes in Mathematics and English with a sharp and narrow focus on Reading. The proposed/draft outline of the day will involve external literacy experts and internal staff presenting workshops on
- Guided Reading- is a small-group instructional context in which a teacher supports each reader's development
- Reading aloud and Reading Comprehension Activities
- Multi-Model- Many texts are multimodal, where meaning is communicated through combinations of two or more modes. Modes include written language, spoken language, and patterns of meaning that are visual, audio, gestural, tactile, and spatial.
- Accelerated Reader- a primary program that tracks reading development and comprehension track students’ independent progress with reading. Teachers can use it to help guide struggling readers to books they can read successfully
- Draw, Write, Say- the role of oral language in early writing and explores the key relationships between drawing and talking, drawing and writing and drawing, talking and writing
- Heggerty - In a Heggerty Phonemic Awareness lesson, students isolate sounds, blend sounds, segment a word into sounds and manipulate sounds in words. The lessons are oral and auditory
- How to undertake a reading observation- An observation report is a document that contains information about what a child has read. This document can be used as the basis to assess a child’s overall development.
- Using V9 Australian Curriculum mapping out the new Literature assessments across all stages of schooling.
Dance Around the World Concert
Parents, carers and friends are invited to join us for the 2023 Dance Around the World School Concert on Thursday 22nd September at 8:30am.
Change of Concert Time is due to the current AEU NT Protected Industrial Action-Work to Rule from Friday 26 August 2022. This will not affect the school day and the school will remain open as usual. However, this action has impacted on other out of school activities i.e. the School Concert.
BEAT Festival
Congratulations to all the students who participated in the BEAT production on Thursday 8th September at the Darwin Entertainment Centre. It was an amazing event to showcase the musical talents of our students and it was exciting to see the big smiles of the students up on stage. Thankyou to the parents who have supported their students in attending this event and listening to them practise their singing at home. A big thankyou also to Mrs Robson for working so closely with the students to get them ready for the show. All choir students should be very proud of their performance
Parent Teacher Student Evenings
On Tuesday 13th September (3.00-6.00PM) and Wednesday 14th September (3:00-5:00PM) we welcome families to meet with their child’s teacher to review their progress and growth and to work in partnership to develop learning goals for this semester. This is a great opportunity to celebrate the growth your child has made this year. All interviews are 10 minute sessions. Drop Off Zone
A reminder of the protocols of entering the main school carpark and using the Drop Off Zone.
- Entering the carpark, ALL cars needs to turn left
- Parents are asked to move down the full length of the Drop Off Zone
- Staff will also direct you to keep moving down the Drop Off Zone
- Parents are NOT to park in the Drop Off Zone and get out of their car-students will come to you

Uniform
Sports shirts are only to be worn on Wednesdays. Please ensure all children have their black bucket hat.
Water bottles
As the weather heats up please ensure your child has a drink bottle to ensure they stay hydrated throughout the day.
Intentions for 2023
All families, should have received an intention form for 2023. Please return this form as soon as possible as this assists the school in planning class groupings, recruitment of teachers and resources for next year. Your assistance with this is greatly appreciated.
