Preschool
Gardening and Growing at Preschool.
This Term at Preschool we have been busy growing many different seeds from herbs to vegetables to flowers into seedlings ready to plant into our Preschool garden.
Mrs Lane has been closely teaching all Preschool groups about the 4 important things we need to help seeds and plants grow: sunlight/warmth, soil, water and air and she taught us a song called ‘Little seed, what do you need’ to help us remember. Along with different stages a plant goes through: A seed, then grows roots, then a stem, then leaves and sometimes grows into a flower. Mrs Lane taught us this with a song called ’Roots, Stem, Leaves, Flower, The parts of a plant song’ along with reading us a wonderful story called ‘Lola plants a garden’.
We then helped Mrs Lane weed, resoil and water the gardens, plant some of the herbs, flowers and vegetable seeds for them to grow into seedlings and we plant our pumpkin and watermelon seedlings straight into the garden.
Then daily during our outside play times we have been helping to water all our seedlings and seeds to help them grow and sharing with our friends and teachers if we notice that they have grown or changed. In both our Preschool classrooms in our investigation areas Mrs Lane has set up a garden table with a small garden and some pots for us to pretend to plant and water some flowers and herbs along with some books. We will keep you all updated as our Preschool garden continues to grow and change over the next few weeks and in the coming Term.

Dress like a Prirate to raise money for The Kids Cancer Project
Last week in Preschool we participated in Dress like a Pirate Day to raise money for ‘The Kids Cancer Project’ who fund vital childhood brain cancer research, investigating kinder and more effective treatments for children with Brain cancer. All the Pre-schoolers ‘had a ball’ participating in many different Pirate activities in both the indoor and outdoor play environments. From riding the open seas on our pallet boat, jumping to land to look for hidden treasure, making telescopes, finding pirate treasure, making maps and hats and walking the plank trying not to fall in and be eaten by a shark. We would like to say a big thankyou to everyone that donated as we raised a grand total of $100.90.
