In our Science unit this term students are learning about animals we see and find every day. Many small animals can be found in the schoolyard environment. In our investigations we have found dragonflies, lizards, butterflies, ants, and curlews (to name a few) live on our school grounds. We have explored in detail dragonflies and ants, investigating where they live, and how they move, feed and protect themselves. Our science investigations will then link to our new writing topic – animal information reports, allowing students to apply and extend their knowledge. When we take the time to look at other animals and explore the similarities and differences between living things, we can gain a greater appreciation for nature and the greater ecological system that we live in.
