NAPLAN (National Assessment Program Literacy and Numeracy)
NAPLAN is a national literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. It is the only national assessment all Australian students have the opportunity to undertake. NAPLAN assesses the literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through the school curriculum and allows parents/carers to see how their child is progressing against national standards and over time.
NAPLAN is just one aspect of a school’s assessment and reporting process. It doesn’t replace ongoing assessments made by teachers about student performance, but it can provide teachers with additional information about students’ educational progress.
NAPLAN also provides schools, education authorities and governments with information about how education programs are working and whether young Australians are achieving important educational outcomes in literacy and numeracy.
NAPLAN testing will commence Wednesday 15 March to Monday 20 March. Catch up testing will take place from Thursday to Monday 27 March.

Student Voice Positive Choice
The Student Voice Positive Choice Leaders recently attended a student summit at Palmerston College. The day focussed on developing their leadership skill, particularly that of communication. The leaders came away from the day with a clear plan for improving student voice and engagement at Zuccoli Primary School. We can't wait to see what they do!

Please come and join us for the Bushland Weed and Feed on Sunday, March 26th from 9:00am to 11:00am to assist us in weeding some of the bushland near our Orange and Green Blocks. Our students benefit from time investigating and exploring in the bushland but due to the heavy wet season rains the bushland is covered in weeds making the play area not accessible. Your assistance will be appreciated by the school community and Mrs. Sapuppo and Ms. Trudy will also treat attending families to refreshments in the kitchen. Children are welcome to attend with an adult. We can supply tools, gloves and rubber boots but you may wish to bring a mask or face covering. We look forward to seeing you there and if you have any questions, please contact the front office or Mrs. Christine Sapuppo at christine.sapuppo@education.nt.gov.au
Great news, Zuccoli Primary School is investing in extension programs for student who show talent in one or multiple areas of the curriculum. These extension programs are delivered by specialist teachers with expertise and passion in key learning areas.
Lego League led by Melanie Johnston:
Students in Lego League are preparing for the FIRST® LEGO® League Challenge. This is a friendly tournament that allows students to compete against teams from other Darwin schools. Students are currently engaging in research, problem-solving, coding, and engineering – building and programming a LEGO® robot.
Performing Arts led by Elisabeth Templar:
In these lessons, students of similar age are developing individual performance ideas to express themselves and entertain an audience. They are busy acting out plays and choreographing intricate dance performances to be shared in the future.
Literacy Club led by Erin Mettam:
Transition students in these sessions are being extended in literacy, furthering their writing, reading and listening and speaking skills and knowledge.
Science Club led by Erin Mettam:
Through ‘Science Club’ students are having opportunities to expand their scientific knowledge and skills through conducting a range of experiments. Students are learning how science is an inquiry process. Last week students discovered how water density effects an object’s buoyancy.

On Wednesday 22 March, Zuccoli Primary School invites families to join us for our Harmony Day Celebrations.
Harmony Dar celebrates Australian multiculturism, and the integration of migrants into our community. It is about inclusiveness, respect and belonging for all Australians.
Students (and families) are encouraged to wear traditional/cultural dress or a splash of orange to signify your support for cultural diversity and an inclusive Australia.
The day will begin with a whole school assembly at 8.30am. From 9.20am through till lunch, students will participate in a series of cultural activities in their blocks. If you would like to share your family culture by running an activity, please contact your child’s classroom teacher.
For lunch, students are encouraged to bring in a plate of food (that reflects their culture) to share. Please remember that we are a nut aware school, and as such, please avoid any dishes that contain nuts.
We look forward to seeing you on Harmony Day and appreciate your support in building a sense of belonging for everyone.
